Colton, CA—After two weeks of homecoming nominees scrambling around the school, hanging up posters, and campaigning to the best of their abilities, Colton’s Homecoming Royalty and Court was finally announced on Oct. 3 during second period by ASB Vice-President Aubree Gonzales.
Beginning with Homecoming Royalty: Bella Armendariz and Thomas Prieto won for the Freshman class; Stefany Marcelo Vergara and Aiden Duron for the Sophomore class; and Kloe Gonzales and Ryan Vasquez for the Junior class.
As for Homecoming Court, after narrowing down a substantial group of Senior nominees, 11 will go on to campaign until the Homecoming Game on Oct. 10, when the Senior King and Queen will be announced during the halftime ceremony.
Traditionally, a group of 10 seniors move forward after the first round of voting, but with two of the Queen nominees tied, ASB decided to increase the Queen nominees to six individuals.
The Senior Queens include: Tiffany Abril, Ariana Baeza, Mia Gomez, Samantha Nikki Gonzales, Alexa Munoz, and Aubrey Rodriguez. Senior Kings include: Anthony Castellanos, Matthew Monge Cortez, Bryan Navarrete, Ghael Pasos, and Damian Sanchez.
Overall, this group of nominees are happy about making court, but they also have many mixed emotions moving into this upcoming week.
“I feel more excited than anything,” Samanthan Nikki Gonzales shared. “I’ve always wanted to do this since my freshman year so I’ve been planning and hoping for this.”
As for Damian Sanchez, looking forward to round two, he shared that his feelings of excitement are also tainted with a bit of anxiety.
“I feel like it’s more stressful now because I’m putting more time into it so, I feel like if I put all this time into it and I don’t win it’ll all feel like a waste, I guess.”
Staying optimistic, Aubrey Rodriguez disclosed that win or lose, she’s just excited for the opportunity. “I’m excited to be in the rally, the parade, the halftime show and no matter what the results are, I’m just excited for all of it.”
