Colton, CA—In an announcement yesterday morning, ASB confirmed that the November 9th Blood Drive, hosted by Renaissance, would be canceled due to a lack of consent forms received.

According to ASB director Alexandra Buskirk, in response to Colton High’s cancellation, local blood bank LifeStream decided to move its blood drive to a different school with more interest.

Rescheduling the blood drive is under discussion. Currently, the next blood drive is scheduled for March 9.

One of the biggest reasons for the low number of submitted consent forms is that returning donors struggle to donate after already participating in the last blood drive. Donors must have at least 8-9 weeks before donating again because red cells need about 5-7weeks for complete replacement

Junior Anthony Saenz Quinonez, a former blood donor, shared his frustration about this cancellation. “For a school with this many students, it’s a shame that only 15 consent forms were signed.”

The only question left to ask is: why aren’t more CHS students donating blood? If you are a student at Colton High between grades 10-12, we want your feedback. Please respond to our blood donation survey.
