Renaissance recognizes CHS scholars at Fall Awards Ceremony
Second semester awards from 2021-22 are presented to this year’s 10th-12th grade scholars
Colton, CA –On Friday, September 2, Colton High students and parents were invited to attend the first awards ceremony of the year in the Cafetorium, soon to be named the Tom Rivera Multi-Purpose Room. This awards assembly recognized student achievement during the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year.
Award recipients received certificates for Honor Roll and Principal’s Honor Roll, medals for passing AP Exams with a score of three or higher, and trophies for inclusion in the Top 10 of each class.
Monique Gomez, a junior award recipient, embraces the awards ceremonies at CHS. “I think it just helps motivate and gives us a little extra push in striving for the best. It confirms that what we’re doing means something, even if it’s a little medal.”
Due to the amount of students receiving awards relative to the Cafetorium’s maximum capacity of 591, two ceremonies were held. The first group’s ceremony started at 5:30 p.m., and the second group had theirs 45 minutes after the first.
Since the Whitmer Auditorium is still under construction until December of this year, the Cafetorium was used to host both ceremonies.
With the record heatwave baking Colton, the Cafetorium’s air conditioning was much appreciated. Students enjoyed Principal Abbott’s announcement style for each award as he filled in silences with a dad joke or two.
