Give your old shoes to support HEAL Pathway
CHS medical pathway looks to fund program expenses by recycling old shoes through the GotSneakers company
Colton, CA—Many people go without the basic necessity of shoes, and the HEAL Pathway looks to solve that problem. HEAL Pathway is an elective at Colton High School (CHS) that focuses on learning about the medical profession. HEAL Pathway is running a year-round shoe drive at CHS in room 51.
“We need to raise money for events, rewards, and the scholarship we offer students through the pathway,” said Kristin Griffith, the pathway adviser. “I was looking for an easy way to raise some money. Came across this in my search.”
Griffith, as a mom, noticed she had a bunch of old shoes gathering over the years as her children grew. She already had six bags of shoes piled up just from her neighbors alone. From this Griffith came up with the idea to host a year-round shoe drive as a way to fund the HEAL Pathway.
After being collected, the shoes are sent to the company GotSneakers. GotSneakers is a company that recycles shoes in any condition in an environmentally friendly way. Additionally, Griffith shared that for every shoe donated, GotSneakers gives them a percentage of the proceeds, which is used to support the HEAL Pathway.
Later this year, HEAL will also hold a drive to collect hygiene and first aid products to create care packages for the California University of Science and Medicine’s “Street Medicine” program.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
