Club Rush gets CHS students excited for extracurricular activities
The annual event showcased 26 school organizations for students new and old to pursue interests and discover new ones
Colton, CA—On August 18, 26 of Colton High’s clubs and athletic teams lined up along DC lane during both lunches to participate in the annual Club Rush, sharing information about their organizations and soliciting participation from curious students.
While a lot of the organizations, like Eco-Friendly Friends, Video Game Club, and Dance Club are established, two new clubs introduced themselves to campus. The Black Student Union, advised by Ms. Natacha Woodson, is striving to provide a safe and comfortable club environment for students of all backgrounds interested in learning more about black culture and speaking their voice on race and other social justice issues.
Another club making their debut is Hive Nation, a media club focused around producing short student films and videos. Senior Noah Limon is excited to be president of a club that has a place for his interests that encourages creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, where students can make whatever they want for publication.
“We are trying to give people an outlet to branch out and express themselves,” he said.
Popular clubs along DC Lane included the Eco-Friendly Friends club. Junior Kenny Perez was excited to find a club that cared for our environment. “We only have one planet we should really try more to take care of—Save the Turtles!”
Drama Club also drew people in today as Juan Barron and the Drama Club Puppet, Mr.Lawyer, called students into joining by announcing: “Drama Club is a great place for those who love or are interested in acting, but that’s not all the club has to offer. You can join just to be a part of the screen writing, stage set up—there so much more behind the scenes!”
Club Rush is really the way to help students find a place that fills their personal interests here at school. Junior Erin Dallatorre thinks so too. “Sometimes it’s really hard to find something you like and Club Rush is the one time of the year where you can find everything in one place. Here you can see all the opportunities at CHS. It’s really eye opening for that.” ]
Club Rush was a successful event for anyone interested in joining a club but needed to know what was offered at Colton High.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
