Colton, CA—As graduation day grows closer, this year’s seniors attended Colton High’s annual Commitment Ceremony to publicly declare their futures.

Seventy-two students signed ceremonial posters committing to 27 different schools or military branches. These schools ranged from local institutions like Cal State San Bernardino, San Bernardino Valley College, University of California Riverside all the way to school in Hawai’i, Oregon, and South Dakota.

The event was hosted by ASB director Alexandra Buskirk, who kept things lively as she announced the students’ names, schools, and intended majors. Even those students who could not be in attendance were cheered on and celebrated for their accomplishments.

Prior to the signing, principal John Abbott delivered an encouraging message, former principal Joda Murphy—who spent the last four years with this graduating class—spoke about how proud she was of this group’s achievements, and Anthony Ortiz, CJUSD Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, gave an uplifting speech.

After signing, students and their families stayed to take pictures at several set-ups for photo ops.

Graduation season continues next with the all-school awards on May 14 at 5 p.m.
