Colton, CA—For one warm spring afternoon, the runways of Paris, New York, and Los Angeles came to Colton High School. Twenty-five seniors power walked down an elevated runway at the annual Prom Fashion Show, hosted by ASB for an audience of juniors and seniors during 6th period outside the new Cafetorium.

With the Fashion Show, the stage is set for Prom on April 23. Hosts Denise Diaz, Marissa Lopez, and Leloni Zesati unveiled the location, theme, and Prom Court for this year’s event.

Prom will be located at Fête the Venue in Costa Mesa. This year’s theme is “Caught in the Moment,” which was shared when a group of ASB leaders erected a 20-foot tall poster.

With the results from Monday and Tuesday’s vote in, the Prom Court finalists were announced. For King: Cesar Arreola, Sergio Lomeli, Nate Ramirez, Jacob Ramos, and Matthew Sosa Contreras. For Queen: Reyna Chavez, Justine Estrada, Diana Fernandez, Marissa Herrera, and Guadalupe Vazquez.

Several of the Prom Court winners and nominees participated in this year’s fashion show, which was a well-coordinated event.

Wearing suits and gowns provided by local rental businesses like David’s Bridal, Men’s Wearhouse, Suit District, and Windsor Fashions, CHS’s seniors, including several Prom Court nominees, showed off some fashionable looks to make this year’s Prom memorable.

“It feels really good to have the suit on,” said senior Aleczander Aguayo, who wore a flashy red velvet tuxedo. “After wearing it, I think I’m going to try to find a suit like this.”

Jason Lopez, who also participated in the event, agreed with Aguayo. “It feels good. It wraps around me good.”

The girls were also excited about their dresses, but not as inspired as their male counterparts. Gisele Ladd loved her dress, however her prom outfit is already picked out. “That one’s a secret,” she said.

The show featured pairs of students strutting down the runway to music DJ’d by Link Crew advisor, Michael Esquivel. The partners each showed off their personalities with their time in the spotlight. Enrique Baltazar and Jackie Ramirez enjoyed a little ballroom dancing. Anthony Gomez and Emily Hernandez got goofy. And Marissa Herrera and Jacob Maciel whipped out the money guns and made it rain fake dollar bills over each other and the crowd.

“I’m feeling great, excited, and a little nervous,” senior Justine Estrada said before hitting the catwalk. “I love the attention, but seeing everyone look at you, you can’t mess up. You gotta be perfect.”

The assembly was put together to introduce prom attendees to fashion ideas, as well as advise them of the rules pertaining to prom fashion and conduct.

Before the show, the hosts, ASB junior leaders Denise Diaz, Marissa Herrera, and Leiloni Zesati shared out some do’s and don’ts for the Prom. Students are advised to keep all bottles and beverages out of the venue; alcohol, weapons, and any smoking paraphernalia are prohibited.

The fashionable seniors were followed by the fashion “Don’ts” for this year’s prom, with examples provided by CHS staff. The pairs of Mr. Calvin Cardenas and Ms. Yesenia Cedillo, Ms. Candice Tapia and Ms. Alexandra Medina, and Mr. Johnny Sandoval and Ms. Priscilla Cortez showed that students are not allowed to wear lounge wear, sports themed clothing, and work attire.

Twelve pairs of seniors walked the runway in this event: Isaiah Ramirez and Zerena Acevedo; Dario Bravo and Gisele Ladd; Aleczander Aguayo and McKenzie Koperski; Enrique Baltazar and Jackie Ramirez; Cesar Arreola and Isyss Valenzuela; Iris Garcia-Zarate and Joe Ramirez; Anthony Gomez and Emily Hernandez; Joseph Duran and Justine Estrada; Jacob Ramos and Ariel Ortiz; Jason Lopez and Dannya Diaz; Jacob Maciel and Marissa Herrera; and Zoe Ixtupe, Luciana Lopez, and Lesley Larios.
