AVID inspires and educates CHS at annual College Fair event
AVID sophomores present about colleges across the nation to interested students during lunch
Colton, CA—On Thursday March 10, the 10th grade AVID students held a college fair during both lunches outside of the Cafetorium.
Multiple presentation boards were set up along the north side of the Cafetorium, showing information about a number of colleges across the nation, including California schools like Cal Poly Pomona, Berkeley, and Cal State San Bernardino, as well as out of state schools like University of Michigan, University of Florida, and Harvard.
AVID students, along with members of their teams, shared information about their selected colleges. This included information about school enrollment, demographics, tuition, financial aid opportunities, student life, facilities, and a host of other details.
In addition to their poster boards, each booth had a binder with additional research and photos of campus.
Each booth had a sign-in sheet for visitors to sign in order to see who and how many people visited each college presentation.
The last AVID College Fair event was hosted in 2018. The 2019 event was scheduled and prepared for, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide quarantine, the event was canceled.
AVID has been hosting the College Fairs since 2012 as a means to inspire CHS students’ interests into going to college after they graduate high school.
AVID teacher, and event co-coordinator, Terry Urban, was most excited about “the ability for kids to present and be involved, and getting out of the COVID haze.”
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
