AAPAC to host 2nd annual Black History Month Student Showcase on Feb. 22
African-American Parent Advisory Committee wants to show what “kids are capable of”
Colton, CA—To celebrate Black History Month and the wide range of talents across the Colton Joint Unified School District, the African-American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) is hosting its second annual Black History Month Student Showcase on February 22 at 6 p.m.
Ms. Tiffany Hampton, Principal at Slover Mountain High School and chair of AAPAC, invites all students in CJUSD to come join and show off their talents. The event is online and free for students, families, and the community.
AAPAC organized this event last year during the pandemic year, and it went great. Now they want to make this year even more amazing as they plan to go bigger.
The decision to put on a talent show came about as AAPAC realized they don’t get to see exactly what the students come with. Hampton is amazed by what students at her school can do and wanted to provide more opportunities for students to showcase their talents for an audience. She thinks it’s important for the district community to know that there’s a lot going on with what students can do that they don’t get to see.
According to Hampton, the community would love to see “what these kids are capable of.” “The more students we have to participate the better,” she added.
Hampton also wants students to show who they are as people and to “speak their mind freely,” whether it be through singing, giving speeches, dancing, playing an instrument, or any variety of mediums.
The Black History Month Student Showcase is a terrific opportunity for students to show off what they couldn’t during COVID, and for the district to bridge relationships with its students to make them about more than just academics.
Those interested in participating in this year’s Student Showcase show can sign up by going to their Google Form. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
