Colton, CA—On October 22, Colton announced the winners of the door decorating contest for PBIS Unity Week.  The first place winners were Ms. Yaquelin Montiel Ramirez (room 466) and Ms. Eileen Garza (room 302). Second place went to Mr. Michael Esquivel (room 202).

The winners’ classes will receive milk and donuts as a prize.

The maximum number of points for any door in competition was 16 points. For first place, both Garza and Montiel Ramirez tied with a 100 percent score. Esquivel received 15 points, landing him second place.

Garza’s door featured a chilly atmosphere with penguins speaking up against bullying, and Mr. Esquivel’s door featured bees in honeycombs offering kind words of encouragement while making honey.

Other teachers who participated in the contest were Dr. Jessica Cannaday, Ms. Kelly Hutchins, Ms. Karen Terry, and Ms. Rosenda Gonzalez.

All doors celebrated Anti-Bullying Unity Week and were constructed by students.

The doors were scored in four categories: quality of construction, creativity, design, and attention to theme.

Unity Week was celebrated across the entire district. The door decoration contest was CHS’s unique spin on Unity Week by Colton High School to encourage student participation.

Colton High School took the extra step to get students involved and to work together to show students the importance of working together and creating something to feel united with the contest.

CHS hopes to do something even more engaging next school year for Unity Week.
