Tolerate No Tardies has been going on for several years her at Colton High.  It was designed to help solve the problem of students arriving to school late and being late to class. TNT is run by Assistant Principal Victor Schiro, who is very happy being in charge of this program. He took on the task of improving the attendance of all students here at Colton High. Even though Schiro is pleased with the effect of TNT, some students have a negative opinion about it.

Late students here at Colton High seem to not like TNT. Colton High student Jamie Medina says,” I think TNT is bad because it just makes you later to class from waiting in the long lines.” Another student, Adrian Uribe, adds,” I think they should make school start later so you don’t have to go to TNT and wait in the lines.”

It seems that the main reason why the students don’t like TNT is because it often keeps students out of class longer than it should, especially first period. The problem seems to be in the morning when students are arriving to school. The students think that TNT isn’t helping the problem, but the statistics show a massive improvement in student’s attendance since it has started. Schiro notes, “Students will arrive late to first period regardless to how much they enforce the students on getting to school on time. Things like trains, the weather, and parents will always affect the amount of tardies here, but there has been an amazing improvement with all periods after first period in past few years.” This does show that it is helping the problem but there are still a large amount of tardies to class on a daily bases. If TNT is keeping students out of class how will they get the knowledge they need from teachers, or even get ready for the upcoming CASHEE exam in March?

If TNT were to be stopped, it still wouldn’t solve the problem. Students would still come late to class, and it would be up to the teacher to handle the problem. This would only cause chaos. TNT is helping the problem and its putting in a lot of effort to solve it, but it’s going to take a lot more work to completely fix this problem.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
