Campus cleanliness always up for improvement

Have you heard teachers or students talking about the cleanliness here at Colton High? Some students agree that the cleanliness has increased since last year, and others are still very upset at the fact that classrooms are still not being cleaned every day. Students such as Julie Lemus, Andres Alcaraz , and Terry Saldivar agree that the floors in their classrooms are dirty and that a clean environment would be very nice.

Some students were asked if they believe that they could do something to help keep our campus clean.

“Yes, I can pick up my own trash” –Andres Alcaraz

“We can all do something but we just decide not to” –Stephanie Murillo

“Yes, we can. Sometimes it’s up to us students to become responsible of ourselves and help others do so, as well.” –Julie Lemus

Having heard from the students, how about we hear from Assistant Principal Victor Schiro himself?

Do any teachers complain about their classroom not being cleaned?

Schiro:Yes.

Are janitors required to empty trash cans every day?

Schiro: Yes, they are.

How many janitors are here at Colton?

Schiro: About 8 or 9; there was a time when we had about 16. Now we have come up with a team of two janitors. They try to cover the rooms every day but with absences, it’s hard for them to do it all in one day.

What do you think about the Colton High School issue with sanitation?

Schiro: There’s room for improvement.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the issue?

Schiro: We are constantly suggesting what we can do to improve.

Do you think there is anything students can do to help?

Schiro: Yes, volunteering on Saturdays to help pick up trash and clean. Emptying trash cans in the morning would help because they are not being emptied and trash flies around.

Has the sanitary issue improved since last year?

Schiro: Yes, there are fewer students.

We can see that there is plenty of room for improvement. Let’s take some pride for our school and step up and volunteer to help our campus look better! It’s time to make the choice to have pride and not just sit there and say you have it. Stand up and help! GO YellowJackets!

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
