Mock trial is a club taking place every Thursday from 2:40 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. The club depends on you to take time off of your daily schedule and also requires hard concentration and thinking. It is definitely a great club if you are planning to be in criminal justice. What Mock Trial does is it gives students a case to examine and either argues or defends it. Then when the time comes, will compete against another school with mock trial and you will defend or argue the case. So you must be strong on both sides. The mock trial team must be able to defend or argue the case at the given moment. As you can see it needs student’s dedication and ability to sit and think about both sides.
The mock trial roles are like a normal trial. It consists of three attorneys, which will be both prosecutors and defense attorneys. There are also Pre-Trial Attorneys which read the Amendments and open the case to the judge. There are also witnesses who are expected to state the facts of the case and their knowledge of it. There is the Court Clerk, Court Bailiff, and Unofficial timer. All of these are expected to be very responsible and professional, much like a real trial. English teacher Lucy Leyva in room 351 is the adviser.
