The first of three debates was held at the University of Denver on October 3rd between Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama.

Jim Lehrer of the PBS Network held the debate between the two and was basically shut out of the entire thing. Romney, and somewhat of Obama, made their points going way over the designated answer time, talking over Lehrer nearly every time.

The first question, and a very critical one at that, was about jobs and employment. Romney started off strong with a step-by-step five-part plan. Obama did agree with Romney on a few key points such as improving education, and also suggested that we invest in energy as well as education.

Later on into the topic, Romney admitted that he won’t cut taxes for the wealthy, which is still a very heated subject. Instead, Romney delcared that he would cut taxes for the middle class, and also get America energy independent.

Obama did his best to deliver a more prominent proposal, but made little impact if not noneat all. Romney would then go on to attack his feeble response. This just goes to show that our current president that he needed his illusive teleprompter.

The second question was about the deficit. Again, Romney had a direct answer by raising the taxes, cutting spending, and then lastly growing the economy. Obama, not one to look like a fool, agreed with Romney, but yet again made a minor response.

Romney gained an overwhelming victory over Obama, and this may have just been what Republicans needed to win the election in November.

Despite all of this, however, one can only ask the question, “Did they only say what we want to hear?”

On the other hand, at least both candidates got a few people on their side.

The next presidential debate will be held on October 16th, at Hofstra University in New York. Hopefully, this one won’t be one-sided.
