Democrats capture nation at convention

The Democratic National Convention, which aired Tuesday, September 4th, gave Democrats a much needed aid in the Presidential Race.

Held in Charlotte, North Carolina, the convention had memorable speeches from First Lady Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and even former President Bill Clinton. Though these speeches were captivating, President Barack Obama gave a rather poor speech.

Michelle Obama started off strongly by stating that her husband has shown real merit during his time in office. Michelle also said she has seen the good American Spirit in everyone she has come by, from teachers to her own two daughters. Michelle gave a moving speech of love and family regarding her and her husband.

In addition to a speech about love, Michelle revealed why Barack is going to try and keep interest rates down and give more financial aid. This is because both of them were in huge debt because of their own student loans. Now, they both want to ensure that no one ever goes through that like they did.

After Michelle gave her speech, Democratic Senator candidate of Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren, made her first speech at her first Democratic Convention. Warren completely disregarded her running opponent, Senator Scott Brown, and went straight to calling out Governor Mitt Romney. Warren went on to say that Republicans don’t want to give the middle class a break, and instead increase taxes for them and lower taxes for the upper class.

According to Warren, Republicans believe in government to “… help themselves and their powerful friends.”

Following Warren was an introduction by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa for President Bill Clinton. The most looked at speech, and longest, Clinton said what he felt regarding the Republicans, stating that they’ll do nothing but add on to the national debt.

Clinton also supported Obama for the next president, by basically saying he needs another four years to do all the things he promised to do. Striking down the words of the Republicans, Clinton stated they want things done fast. However, Clinton then said Republicans are still people who care about their families and that we should be grateful for that alone.

After sizing up the crowd, Clinton asked a few questions. Asking if we were happy with where we are, and then asking if we are at least better off than we were before. Clinton received a satnding ovation for some simple questions.

After a speech like Clinton’s, Obama would have a hard time giving his own. Making his speech at the Bank of America Stadium, Obama’s speech at the Convention was not at all like any of his previous speeches. Even though he did have the tone of a leader, Obama had more of a schedule-like speech than a convincing one.

Romney didn’t make a glorious speech either, so Obama wasn’t criticized too much.

Both Romney and Obama are scheduled to have debates next month starting October 3rd. Until then, neither will make bad speeches again.
