Never a dull moment at Republican conventions

Never a dull moment at Republican conventions

The Republican National Convention proved to be everything it was expected to be, delivering the Republican party’s choice and galvanizing speeches by Republicans.

Despite the fact that Hurricane Isaac, which is now a tropical storm, was expected to hit Tampa, Florida, the convention still aired a day late on Tuesday August 28. Republicans such as Governor Mitt Romney, Senator Marco Rubio, and even actor Clint Eastwood gave speeches as to why Romney should be the next president.

Governor Romney’s wife, Ann, made a speech as to why America should “… get to know him [Mitt Romney].” In addition to that, she also made sweeping statements all leaning towards women and how they make this country great. Even though that was his wife, Governor Romney was a little bit uneasy letting his wife take the stage. However, after she was done, he was relieved and proud of his wife.

Later on, Marco Rubio, a Republican senator in Florida, would say that Governor Romney is a good husband, father, and active member of his community, and is going to be the next president.

Regarding current President Barack Obama, Rubio did not call him a bad person, just a bad president. Rubio stated that Obama’s new slogan, “Forward,” does not fit because he is moving us backwards. Obama is now a divide-and-conquer person, instead of the “hope and change” guy that he was once he was elected. Rubio even went as far to say that our faith in America has been tested by the last few years with Obama as president.

While Rubio did give a profound speech, actor Clint Eastwood gave a rather bizarre one, and was mocked for such a speech. Although Eastwood is a dedicated Republican, and is one of the only known Republicans in Hollywood, he rambled on about awkward topics, speaking for ten minutes to an empty chair that was supposed to stand for Obama, and did little to support Governor Romney.

Romney’s running mate, Senator Paul Ryan, supported the Republican nominee choice, and assured everyone that he is ready. Ryan’s remarks were also directed at the faults of Obamacare and his and Romney’s plan to make twelve million new jobs. Ryan’s remarks were later attacked by the Obama team who said Ryan’s plans were no different than their plans.

Now that Governor Romney is the official Republican nominee, he and Obama are head to head. Though Obama currently has a lead in the race for electoral votes, Romney could change that before the election.
