Colton High School will be featuring a day event called Synergy on Wednesday February 29th. Synergy will come to our school this spring; it is a day long process, and will be held in the Hubbs Gym. Synergy is intended to be a safe environment, where stereotypes and cliques are forgotten. It’s a place where the bully and the bullied learn how to understand each other. It is also a place where compassion overcomes the troubles a high school student faces. In the synergy environment, there is no longer a division amongst the “jocks” “nerds” “punks” etc. Synergy teaches you how to consider everyone as equal. A couple of Colton High students attended Bloomington High School’s synergy event they said nothing but good things to say about the event. The students described it as being similar to the MTV reality show “If You Really Knew Me.”
Counselors will refer students to attend this event. You may also consider seeing your counselor and asking him or her to sign you up to attend Synergy. The event is hopefully going to change how high school students see each other. It will allow the participants to meet new people they might have never thought they would talk to, and possibly make them realize how much they could have in common with the stranger they pass by every day. Just because one may seem different than the people you hang out with, it doesn’t mean it is impossible to be going through similar situations as they are. Synergy will get participants thinking about how a smile may just turn someone’s day around. If the Synergy event is effective, it could change the attitudes of high school students; making many become more civilized, reduce bullying, and altogether be able to understand one another just a little bit more.
