In the most recent Presidential GOP debates, which took place in Portland, Maine, candidate Mitt Romney overcame the odds and narrowly defeated his political competitors (mainly Rick Santorum), as he scored a victory in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, a few days prior to the February 11th debates.
Romney really needed this victory, due to the fact that opponent Santorum scored three victories, consequently leaving him in the dust. He won the straw poll with a slim, and some may call lucky chance, with thirty-nine percent, while candidate Ron Paul managed thirty-six percent.
The Portland debate forced fellow candidates Santorum and Newt Gingrich into a rather silent position, making them pretty much dead to the world, and fairly unnoticed during the debates. Santorum scored a mere eighteen percent in the straw poll, while Gingrich got a pathetic six percent.
Now that these debates are over, the next are to be held in Arizona and Michigan. No one can tell what will happen, but everyone knows that each candidate is highly anticipating another victory.
