Yesenia Nunez is a proud senior at Colton High School and a candidate for this year’s Homecoming Court. But for her, it’s not just the title, it’s a way to celebrate her hard work, her love for Colton High, and the connections she’s made along the way.
“I’m running for Homecoming Queen because I want to show how committed I am to this school,” Yesenia said. “It’s my senior year, and I want to make the most of it.”
Yesenia is involved in a wide range of activities. She’s part of National Honor Society, Track and Field, Soccer, Link Crew, ASB, AVID, Uncommon Club, and Sports Medicine. While her schedule is packed, she finds ways to stay balanced. “Sometimes I do get stressed, but I’ve learned to manage my time,” she explained. “I keep an agenda, and I know when to slow down and take care of myself.”
Growing up in a Mexican-American household, family has always been a big part of Yesenia’s life. She’s especially inspired by her parents and brothers. “My dad is a very hard-working person, and my mom always gives me advice when I need it. My brothers have their own barbershop, and they’ve shown me what success looks like,” she said. “I’m definitely a family person.”

One of the things Yesenia loves most about the homecoming experience is the chance to meet new people. “Campaigning has helped me connect with others at school. It’s been nice to talk to people I didn’t know before,” she said. “It’s kind of bittersweet, realizing it’s our last year and how many people we’ve grown with over time.”
Yesenia hopes to become a nurse in the future. This dream comes from a very personal place, losing a close friend to cancer earlier this year. “He passed away in July. We met through church choir, and he became like a brother to me,” she shared. “He taught me how important it is to enjoy the time we have with the people around us.” Now, she wants to be someone who brings comfort and care to others during their hardest times.
In five years, Yesenia hopes to have earned her nursing degree, bought her own home, and retired her parents. “They’ve done so much for me. I want to give back,” she said.
She has applied to California Baptist University (CBU), a Christian-based college where she hopes to grow her faith and continue helping others. “I’ve always been Catholic, and my faith is important to me. I want to grow closer to God and keep learning.”
With her strong values, school spirit, and kind heart, Yesenia Nunez is a great example of what it means to be a leader at Colton High. Whether she wins the crown or not, she’s already making a difference.
