Yulior is someone willing to always go the extra mile. Continuously growing and pushing himself in order to become the best version of himself that he can be, and running for homecoming king is only a stepping stone in his life.
Yulior is involved with multiple clubs such as; AVID, sports medicine, Hip Hop Dance team, Coffee Corner Club, and Wellness Club. He is even the Eco-Friendly Club’s president while also running for both the cross county and track and field teams.
Even with all this pressure from clubs and classes over the years, Yulior has learned to have a balance in his life.
“In my junior year, I took a step back and decided to relax a bit. It helped me understand what I can do to perform better, and overall, just give my divided attention to each thing equally.”
With this new found balance in life Yulior has been able to express and show his accomplishments through his two favorite clubs: the Hip Hop Dance Club and AVID club. In Hip Hop, Yulior has been able to show his creativity to others and give people a new perspective on him. While the AVID club has helped him achieve his goals academically while being able to have acknowledgement for his accomplishments in it.

Even while being a part of these various clubs and extracurricular activities, Yulior sometimes struggles with social anxiety. “I think that sometimes anxiety can get the best of us and it can be scary to speak to new people.”
His struggle with social anxiety is, in part, the whole reason he decided to run for Homecoming King. “I initially wanted to just run for senior court, with my friend Yesenia,” he said. “But when we found out that there was an opportunity to push we decided to take it.”
The main reason he wants to overcome his social anxiety is because he sees it as a necessity for him to grow as a person. “It can be scary to speak to new people and unfamiliar faces, but I think it’s just part of the reality of growing up.”
This overcoming of social anxiety is very important for his plans for the future. Yulior wants to go to a four year university and major in political science. He looks to contribute to the country’s future and help make decisions to better people’s lives. Despite that, he is still interested in pursuing some type of art form in order to express himself creatively.
Overall, Yulior is defined by growth. Taking into account all of his achievements and extra-curricular activities, running for Homecoming King is merely another stepping stone.
This perspective gives him his drive. “I think it’s kind of something that applies to my life in a similar way, that sometimes not everything is impossible, that even though it’s scary sometimes to do something that’s outside your comfort zone, it’s something that can benefit you in the future.”
