If anyone has made the most of high school, it’s Dexia Casillas.
She is a decorated cheerleader. Having been involved with the sport since she was two-years-old, there is little she hasn’t accomplished. This year she became an All-American and won the Golden Pom, a recognition of her value to her team, her leadership and dedication.
She also traveled to Rome in December as part of the All-American experience to participate in the annual London’s New Year’s Day Parade. “Traveling abroad for cheerleading means a lot,” she said. “It’s a chance to represent our school on a global stage while doing what we love.”
For Casillas, she represents Colton High globally, locally, and anyway she can. She is involved in a number of community activities. Aristrong events, Trunk-R-Treat, the Sheriff’s Rodeo. She volunteered to help raise money and collect clothing for individuals impacted by wildfires. And during her time with HEAL, she took great pride in sharing a book she wrote on first aid and CPR for children at Arrowhead Medical Center in Rialto.
Since Casillas was a child, she has always been engaged and interested in many things. She’s the oldest of three, and grew up in a large family with several cousins. Her family tells her endless stories about what she wanted to be when she grew up. “Forever, I wanted to be a paleontologist,” she said.
She got involved in HEAL here at CHS, entering the pharmacy technician program. She gave it her all, but also found it wasn’t who she was.
Now, she has put it all together and when you consider all that she has accomplished and represents, it makes sense where she’s headed. Casillas is looking forward to pursuing a career as a lawyer.
If you take stock of all the hallmarks of being an exceptional Yellowjacket, Casillas checks all the boxes. She’s an excellent student, an athlete, an ambassador, a community servant.
And now she’s looking to add Prom Queen to that list.
