In Colton High’s Rivera MPR, laughter and cheers filled the air as students at the annual Prom Fashion Show anticipated the announcement of the 2025 prom court.
3…2…1 BOOM! Confetti exploded over the stage as the prom court was announced, and shock spread across everyone’s faces when students chanted one name in particular: Nam Hoang.
Each club, special elective, and sports team at Colton High nominates one boy and one girl to run for prom court. If the nominee chooses to run they will typically try to rally votes through campaigning with posters and incentives; however, for Hoang this was not the case.
“Pretty strange. I didn’t actually expect to get nominated for Prom Court,” Hoang said. “If I’m being honest, what was even more shocking was that I didn’t actually do any campaigning.”
Although he’s active in both the Gaming Club and the Dungeons and Dragons Club, few people actually know the guy underneath the hood and glasses.
Hoang is quite reserved in comparison to the other court members. For starters, it was never his intention to run for prom king.
“I wasn’t going to do it, but my friend actually dragged me to Mrs. Buskirks.”
One of Hoang’s good friends, Alejandra Gomez, is the one who pushed him to run for Prom King, as well as the one who pushed Hoang to join the DND club.
Hoang isn’t much of a “planning person” as he shared. He said how he wouldn’t know how to react if he were to win Prom King.
This might just be a bit of modesty, however. Hoang intends on attending Cal State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) where he hopes to major in computer science.
