Prom Court 2023: Going with the Flow
Prom Queen nominee Leslie Venegas brings us into her world to discover what makes her so awesome
With Prom on April 29, the last round of voting for Prom Queen and King are coming, and Leslie Venegas wants people to know something.
“One thing I want voters to know about me is that I’m here for a good time not a long time.”
And that’s what Leslie Venegas is about, just going with the flow.
Leslie is running for Prom Queen to get out of her comfort zone and enjoy the experience.
About being crowned queen on Prom Night, she is reflective. “I think it’d be really special because I know a lot of people are rooting for me. Like I’d be really proud, but also since I’m running with my boyfriend it would just be a special moment for us. And I don’t know—it’s just a good way to end off my senior year.”
How did Leslie get here? It’s easy to dismiss the prom court as merely a popularity contest, but Leslie earned her spot with everything she does, or is involved with, at Colton High.
Case in point: she works . . . a lot. Not only does she manage her time working at the Inland Center Mall, but she’s also in the National Honors Society, AVID, Volleyball, and she’s ASB Treasurer.
It is tough finding downtime with a schedule like Leslies, but when she does find free time, she enjoys watching movies and hanging out with her siblings.
Leslie has been the go with the flow type of person; she doesn’t have a particular dream job or college. However, she does know that she wants to help people.
Originally deciding to major in education, Leslie is now indecisive and might change her major to accounting. “All I want to do is just to help others like that’s what I truly want like as an accountant I can help people do their taxes and stuff or if I become a teacher, obviously I can help kids because I really like working with kids.”
Leslie’s words of encouragement to herself and others are “You might as well try. Like there could be a negative outcome, but you have to push yourself and you have to just get out there and be positive.”
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
