Moorisha Bey-Taylor graduated from CHS with the class of 2004. Now she’s an award-winning Attorney-at-Law in Los Angeles.

2021 was a rough year for many. For Moorisha Bey-Taylor, it was remarkable.

A proud Colton alum from the class of 2004, Moorisha was named one of the 40 Lawyers under 40 – The Nation’s Best Advocates by the National Bar Association. She was also honored by the University of Oregon School of Law as an “Outstanding Recent Alumni,” awarded to only a select few within the first 10 years of the recipient’s graduation. Also, in a partnership with Wells Fargo and the National Bar Association, she spoke on a panel of experts about protecting the Intellectual Property of small businesses.

It was a great year, to be sure. And it was the product of years of hard work.

At CHS, Moorisha was a stellar student who made sure to get involved in the school culture. She participated in Drama club, Powderpuff football, Cheer, and ASB. She even spent time as the school mascot, which at that time was named Buzz.

Moorisha was quick to take advantage of the opportunities these activities gave her. From planning school dances and pep rallies, to cheering on our sports teams, Moorisha embodied school spirit.

With many aspirations for her life after high school, she followed what called to her: Law. Moorisha attended the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with the intention of staying in state.

Her time at UCSD would become the foundation for what would bloom into a great career. Studying law during the years after high school was where Moorisha paved her own path to becoming who she is now. She would spend most of her time on the beautiful campus at one of her favorite spots, the library overlooking the water.

For Moorisha, time at UCSD was spent focused on a lot of school work and creating life-long friendships with her peers.

Although she enjoyed her time at UCSD, where Moorisha really grew was at the University of Oregon. Wanting a more traditional college experience when looking for where to apply, Moorisha had found her home. When at a Law School Expo, the Oregon booth caught her eye. The campus, sports and college life drew her into becoming a Duck.

Her time at Oregon were “some of the best times of my life.”

Once she graduated from Oregon, Moorisha returned to Colton in 2012 to visit her family, whom she had not seen for a while. It is then when she returned to the CHS family by volunteering to help with then defunct Debate/Mock Trial team. With her support, the program was relaunched in 2012 and has maintained several years of success including competing at the State Championship level.

When she’s not helping out in our community, she runs a solo practice, where she specializes in intellectual property law. She does everything from helping social media stars with their copyright claims to helping small businesses protect their brands with Trademarks. Recently, her firm also partnered with Nike. “I get to see my work in Brand Marketing manifest itself on large Billboards when I ride my bike around LA Live and the Staples Center or when cruising the internet and social media,” said Moorisha.

Moorisha Bey-Taylor is one of Colton High’s most distinguished alumni. And 2021 was her most distinguished year yet.
