Becoming bilingual helps brain function

Finally we are something more than children, but still less than adults. What can we do about this?

With new opportunities and experiences, you will start to realize that money really does make the world go ‘round. Getting a job is becoming more common in your peers, but what can you do to make yourself more interesting whilst they are trying to decide who to hire? You’ll notice many jobs are searching to employ people who are bilingual to better serve the diverse customers. Perhaps you have little or no knowledge on a second language? Well, it’s never too late to try.

Recent studies show evidence that suggests the bilingual experience helps the brain’s executive function improve. An executive function is like a command system that helps us plan, solve problems, and tasks that are mentally demanding. Improving the executive function will improve your ability to focus on the task at hand, switch your attention from one thing to another, and holding on to information for the needed period of time.

Back to actually learning the language, these studies recommend the Pimsleur Approach. This system focuses on key words and teaches you how to use them, teaching you to have basic phrases out with each new word you learn. Scientists have sequenced it so your brain will hold on to the information you are hearing making your speaking more fluent after just one listen. The Pimsleur Approach also guarantees you will speak in ten days or they do not require you to pay for it.

By learning a new language, not only do you make yourself look more desirable on the job market, but you also help your brain.
