February is the second month of the traditional year,  but really there it is so much more to it than that. February is most recognized for Valentine’s Day and the celebration of achievements in African American culture, also known as Black History Month. It is the shortest month of the year, consisting of typically 28 days, and 29 every leap year. It is the only month that ends on the same weekday it begins.

February itself is one of the most commemorative months of the year. Besides it being Black History Month, February contains many more commemorative events. Events such celebrated times as National Heart Month, Bake for Family Fun Month, Chocolate Lover’s Month, Creative Romance Month, Human Relations Month, National Hot Breakfast Month, National Boost-Your-Self-Esteem Month, and so many more.

February is also a month with much awareness. February 2^nd is Rheumatoid Arthritis Day, February 4^th is World Cancer Day, February 15^th is International Childhood Cancer Day, and the list goes on. Then there are certain random days throughout the month that many would think were just made up, but they are not. If you did not know that February 9^th is National Toothache Day you also might not know that February 12^th is Darwin Day, as in Charles Darwin, the English naturalist. There is a day in February devoted to only thinking and that is the 22^nd.

Even though February is the shortest month of the year it is the most commemorative. It is a month that is underrated and undermined for what it truly is.
