The Hunt for the Missing Yearbook

On September 8, Dr. Luis Gonzalez, history teacher at Colton High School, visited the Colton City Museum for a planned afternoon of reminiscing and discovery. Upon signing in, Dr.G immediately gravitated to the old player organ and examples of old sheet music. Other displays included decorated rooms, signs, books, official documents, clothes, and many household and business items. All of these were carefully arranged by curator, Mr. Mike Murphy, and his wonderful staff of volunteers.

During the visit Dr. G came upon an interesting bookshelf filled with yearbooks from Colton High School., and quickly shuffled through them to see the yearbooks with which he was most familiar, namely 1996 to 2012.  Noticing Dr. G’s apparent burst of enthusiasm, Mr Murphy approached to say “I wished we had them all, some are still missing.”  “Which ones?” replied Dr. G.  After Dr.G and Mr. Murphy dutifully put all of the yearbooks in order, it was apparent that six of the yearbooks were still missing!
1987, 1999, 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2011

The hunt was on! Soon came an investigation of the CHS yearbook room, the Principal’s office and the CHS Library, as well as public service announcements given at the Colton City Council and The Colton Joint Unified School District Board meetings. Amazingly, five of the missing yearbooks were quickly recovered!  However, one yearbook, 2004, is still missing, and is still needed to complete the entire collection.

If you can help locate this yearbook and are willing to donate it to the Colton Museum, our mission, the complete CHS yearbook collection, will be complete. Please contact  Dr. Luis Gonzalez @ 213-3730 or Mr. Mike Murphy at the Colton Museum for more information; or better yet, to tell us you have found the 2004 CHS yearbook.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
