The Pepper Bough

The Crimson Pigeon: A Modern Fable by Adrian Rojas

On the afternoon of January 18, 2013 Colton High was visited by a very mysterious bird, a crimson pigeon. Some students report that the pigeon seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. A few students slowly tried to approach the pigeon but they were too scared. The crimson pigeon just sat in the middle of the grass area of the 300’s wing peering into the depths of their souls . Reporter Adrian Rojas, of the Pepper Bough newspaper decided to approach this pigeon himself and see what the all this “buzz” was about. It seems that he was the only one with the courage to face this bird from hell. Students squealed as he started to approach this beast but as he took his third step he said,” I must face him myself.”  The classroom door slammed shut sounding like the thunder of a raging storm. It then became quiet.

The only thing you could hear was the sounds of the brave student’s feet slowly approaching the pigeon. Then it became silent again. Reporters say that was when he finally reached the bird disguised only known as, Satan. Legend says that the eyes of this pigeon looked like the burning fire of a 1,000 souls. No one really knows what he did next. When the students went outside to look at the scene, the pigeon was nowhere to be found. Adrian’s memory seemed to be erased. He didn’t seem to remember anything about that crimson pigeon. Some still question if the crimson pigeon was even real, but we know that the crimson pigeon was never seen again. The witnesses of this mysterious pigeon disappeared. A search for these students went on for 2 weeks, but no one was ever found.

One student finally gained the courage to tell the Pepper Bough about something they had seen the same day. The student would not allow us to release their name, but that day the student says they had seen Adrian, walking home alone. As he walked something fell out of his pocket, a long crimson feather. As he picked it up slowly he looked back at the student and gave a big bright smile. The student then looked away and frantically walked in the different direction. Adrian was never seen again.
