Halloween Movie Tournament 2023 - #1 Get Out vs. #8 The Ring

Halloween Movie Tournament 2023 – #1 Get Out vs. #8 The Ring

Which movie will stand as Colton High’s champion on Halloween night? Round one starts here!

Welcome to the first annual—perhaps the only—Pepper Bough Halloween Movie Tournament!

Over the next nine school days, you will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite horror movies from this century, with the champion being crowned on none other than Halloween night.

The game is simple. Like any tournament, we have set up brackets in which horror movies can square off against each other in individual matchups. On each entry, there will be a poll for you to vote for your favorite of the two. The winner will move on to the next round.

Today’s first round match-up is . . .

1. Get Out vs. 8. The Ring

Our staff has put together some defense for each film. Take a look, then make your vote!

No. 1 – Get Out (2017)

What is the movie “Get Out” about? The movie is about a man who meets his girlfriend’s family, who end up being very racist, which results in a series of disturbing events leading to something you can’t imagine. Directed by Jordan Peele (“US,” “Nope”), this movie is on another level. The cinematography is amazing and, at some points, strangely beautiful. There is a part where the main character, Chris, falls into “The Sunken Place,” that will stick with you; and Daniel Kaluuya’s emotional performance will, too. The way Peele directed this movie is purely psychological, so you don’t know what will happen, and the way he makes the characters so real.

No. 8 – The Ring (2002)

Would you watch a terrifying tape, rumored to kill you within 7 days? Well Rachel Keller did, along with her psychic son Aiden and ex-boyfriend Noah. “The Ring ” is a movie full of mystery, horror, and unanswered questions. Since the movie focuses on the main character it is spread throughout 7 days. This creates a sort of anticipation and suspense leaving the audience wondering if the main characters will survive. The movie is scary due to the fact that you feel like you could put yourself in the main character’s shoes. The scariest scene in the movie was when the movie cuts to the tape and the audience begins to watch it; this brings an eerie element to the movie because it makes you feel like you’re the one in the movie. It’s safe to say anyone who watches this film will be staying away from TV’s especially if any static appears.
