Colton Vibe – Songs of the Week – May 12, 2023
For Seniors, it’s almost time to wave goodbye to high school, so this week we’ve put together the perfect soundtrack for those goodbyes
Seniors: time is almost up here at Colton High!
With all the memories you’ve experienced, the friends you’ve made, and the lessons you’ve learned over these past four years, tonight you’ll get to celebrate at Senior Sunset.
Once the sun sets, graduation is coming up, and with it, time to say goodbye.
This week’s Colton Vibe is about saying goodbye . . .
“Graduation (Friends Forever)” – Vitamin C
When you think of the future, will you go look back at your high school years? The lyrics of this song show the thoughts that seniors often have, and the pain experienced when leaving something behind. The high melody, the hushed voice, and the repetition of similar thoughts indicate the trouble of saying goodbye. The song is relatable and makes you feel like you can be in their shoes.
“I Will Remember You” – Sarah McLachlan
The song is downbeat, which makes the significance of the lyrics more important. With lyrics like, “Will you remember me?” McLachlan’s famous song is about being bound to certain memories and questioning if you will remember them looking back. Sometimes we think we’ll remember everything, but that isn’t always true. However, McLachlan knows whom she’ll never forget.
“Good Old Days” – Macklemore feat. Kesha
The song is a feeling we will later get of nostalgia. The song makes us question what our future may look like.”I would lay in my bed and dream about what I’d become.” The songs make us reflect on all the memories we made and how it is time for a new chapter in our lives and how we’re not afraid of that.
“Leaving New York” – R.E.M.
In my opinion, “Leaving New York” is a relatable song for many reasons. For one reason the lyrics are very metaphorical. In the song, the person is in love with New York’s beauty and has grown attached to it. This makes you relate the lyrics by relating to the attachment to something and having to say goodbye.
“Long Live” – Taylor Swift
Graduating high school is what comes to mind when I listen to this song. The lyrics make you think of your high school memories, like prom. ”The night you danced like you knew our lives.” It gives the feeling of leaving everything, who you grew up with, your memories and your promises of remembering each other. “When they point to the picture . . . Please tell ‘em my name.”
“Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” – Green Day
The chorus says it all: “It’s something unpredictable/ But in the end, it’s right/ I hope you had the time of your life.”
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
