5 Movie Soundtracks to Make Your Valentine’s Day Cinematic
These classic soundtracks bring all the feels
It’s Valentine’s Day, so you know what that means? That’s right, time to put on some movies. There are a million classic romantic movies and rom-coms out there to watch, but what separates the best of them is their soundtracks. The perfect song combined with the perfect romantic image has the potential to bring out the Kleenex and mess with our feelings about love forever.
These five movies have soundtracks that will do just that.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Aside from this movie being one of my favorites, it’d only be wrong of me not to include any soundtrack that has Lana Del Rey on it. “The Great Gatsby” is a classic film all about romance and unrequited love. Although the story is heart wrenching, the soundtrack is great and includes many amazing artists such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Andrè 3000, Florence + the Machine, and more.
500 Days of Summer (2009)
Even though “500 Days of Summer” is arguably not a love story, I think it’d be unfair to leave it off this list considering its amazing soundtrack. This is another story of one-sided love, but it features multiple songs from The Smiths (“There is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want”) and other music from various other lesser known indie artists, this is a great film to watch this Valentine’s Day for anyone who has a love for rom-coms and indie/alternative music.
Call Me By Your Name (2017)
“Call Me By Your Name” is a unique, yet heartfelt, movie. This film gave viewers the feeling of heartbreak, but more importantly, a great soundtrack. “Call Me By Your Name” gifted songs you may have heard before, such as “Mystery of Love” and “Visions of Gideon” by Sufjan Stevens, and “Love My Way” by Psychedelic Furs. The soundtrack does a good job at both conveying what the characters are going through while still putting everyone in the mood for love.
The Bodyguard (1992)
Without this movie, we wouldn’t have been given the iconic tracks “I Will Always Love You” or “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. That being said, this soundtrack is important to not only the movie industry but also the music industry. In this movie, Whitney struggles with an obsessive stalker that goes to extreme lengths to reach her. In the time that her bodyguard does his job to protect Whitney, the two become unexpectedly close. Whether you love romance, or you’re just a fan of Whitney Houston, this movie soundtrack is made for you.
A Star Is Born (2018)
“A Star Is Born” is one romance movie that will never fail to make me cry everytime I watch it. Undoubtedly sad, it’s still nothing short of a love story. That’s perfectly displayed in the soundtrack of the film. With tracks like “Shallow,” “Always Remember Us This Way,” and “I Don’t Know What Love Is,” the romance between Ally and Jackson will leave anyone longing to find an unconditional love like the one they share.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
