SXSW, or as many of people heard, South by southwest,  is a music and film festival in Austin, Texas. Even though it is a film and music festival it is more known for its music. It is one of the largest music festival of its kind, with over 2,000 artists from many different genres playing in different venues in the Austin, Texas area. South by southwest grows each year with last year having up to 20,000 people showing up to view certain artists. What is special about SXSW is that it brings all types of music lovers near the same area, unlike most music festivals they focus on one genre.

This is good because it exposes other artists that spark interest into people who wouldn’t think they like a certain artist or genre.  It is very similar to Coachella but longer and thousands of more artists.  SXSW was founded in 1987 and lasts up to 10 days. For me personally if I ever had the chance to go I would go to see many hip hop artist because that is the type of genre I like.

On March 12, 2014 Rashad Charjuan Owens, who was a rapper scheduled to perform that night was drunk and ran over about 23 people at the festival and left 2 dead. When he finally crashed into a van he tried to escape, before he could get far he was tazed and arrested. Police later found out that the young aspiring rap artist had many open warrants. This open discussion on whether or not the festival was growing too big.

Either way South by southwest is a great experience for most people and a great way to display your music to a large audience.
