Frank Ocean (affiliated with Odd Future) “Channel Orange” album is one of the best of the year, it shows a complex view on American life from the extremely talented writer and vocalist. There is a difference from his last album “Nostalgia, ULTRA” Channel Orange” shows his fearlessness. Once this album came out there was a squeal of excitement.
Ocean’s album has 17 amazing tracks, consisting of a variety of things: sex, wealth, lonliness, and drugs. He also sings of love in between all the materialistics. Happiness is out of reach in “Channel Orange”, but his songs are fantastic no matter the mood. Ocean once said in an interview, “My music tells a story…” and it truly does, you can visualize the story he is telling when you listen to his music.
“Channel Orange” defines him as an artist and makes you understand him as a person. Those 55 minutes of tracks shine the light on subjects that usually aren’t discussed enough through other artists. “Channel Orange” does not contain any bad songs, in my opinion. Ocean has great talent and spectacular melodies, hopefully “Channel Orange” will make him a household name, it may not but, this album and his past work are quite fantastic, and hopefully he will keep them coming.
