Movie Club a rare treat for film buffs

Movie+Club+a+rare+treat+for+film+buffs

Almost any Friday afternoon, after school is dismissed, and all the student body has made their way off campus to whatever awaits them in the coming weekend, a stalwart group of film buffs gathers together in room 402. Their purpose? To watch movies, new and old? Their passion? All things film.

The Movie Club, advised by Film Studies teacher Jeremiah Dollins, is a certified hit on campus, with the room filled to capacity nearly every Friday. Even teachers drop by to watch the interesting films that Dollins screens. The Pepper Bough caught up with Dollins for a recent interview about the club.

Pepper Bough: What made you want to create Movie club?
Dollins: The M.O.  is to bring greater appreciation to movies and film culture.

Pepper Bough: How long have you been running this club?
Dollins: Movie club has been on campus at CHS for 6 years now.

Pepper Bough: What’s the purpose of this club?
Dollins: This club is a great opportunity for students who are fans of movies to come around other fans and “geek out” a bit about their favorite movies.

Pepper Bough: How often do you have meetings?
Dollins: Movie Club meets every friday for movie screenings in room 402. Tickets-which are a parent permission slip- are available every Monday in room 402.

Pepper Bough: Does one have to attend the meetings to go and watch the movies? What are the requirements?
Dollins: You can just come in on Fridays, but you need to get a ticket which has information about the movie and a parent signature which you do need in order to watch the movies for most.

Pepper Bough: What type of movies have you shown so far?
Dollins: We all vote on the movies, We’ve shown movies that club member have chosen, such as King Kong, Carrie, This is the End, and The Fisher King, which was chosen when Robin Williams died.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
