What are you passionate about outside of teaching?
Family . . . I truly enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandkids and my dog Bailey. I enjoy watching my sons, nieces, and nephews interact with one another and listening to them share their experiences. This brings both my wife Sharon and I great joy.
Have you had any other jobs than teaching?
Many say my life has been like an onion. When you peel back the layers, here is a glimpse into my storied life. I have been a Midwest Vice President of Corporate Operations for Domino’s Pizza. I had a staff that supervised eight midwest states that contained about 600 stores. I then left the corporate world and franchised five Domino’s Pizza stores just west of downtown Los Angeles. Two of the five stores were consistently in the top 25 residential stores in the United States between 1992 and 1997. I also was a performing illusionist and landed a job as an equipment and personnel manager for Franz Harary, a magician that performs all around the world. I have worked on tours with Michael Jackson, N Sync, Ayumi Hamasaki in Japan, and other artists as well. After 9-11, I settled down and went back to college and earned my teaching degree. Although cheesy – the rest is history . . . get it? See what I did there?
What is something interesting about you that students wouldn’t know?
I met my wife at an “air band” competition. The song “Surrender” by Cheap Trick was being performed. If you asked my wife what it was like to meet me, she will reply that the day we met was the worst day of her life! She was the manager of a Wienerschnitzel in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and when she opened the store in the morning, the deposits from the prior day were missing and she had been interrogated by the police all day. At the party I was dressed in a clown costume with bright yellow baggy pants, a tie dyed shirt, and a rainbow colored wig. Fortunately, my life has been uphill from that day . . .
