Teacher Appreciation Shout-Outs – Apr. 25-29, 2022
This week Colton High is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week. In honor of our excellent faculty, we have asked students across campus to share their most memorable teacher. Each day this week, the Pepper Bough will feature a different academic department.

Mr. Jesus Delgado, Science
"I like Mr. Delgado's attitude, and the way he teaches the class." - Brandon Salvato, Grade 10

Ms. Yaquelin Montiel Ramirez
"Ms. Montiel. She's my favorite because she's super sweet, she makes learning fun, and I love coming into her class every day. She really takes time to get to know each and everyone of her students personally; she takes time out of her day to help you on the side. She makes herself very open to being helpful." - Gisele Ladd, Grade 12

Ms. Elizabeth Garza, English
“Ms. Garza, because when we were reading 'The Hunger Games' she asked us if we were Team Gale or Team Peta. Plus, she actually talks to us and not one of those teachers who just gives us work and sits there.” - Kai Pacheco, Grade 10

Mr. Calvin Cardenas
“Mr. Cardenas makes learning math fun, I understand it better and the overall environment in the class is very comforting and calm. He is a laid-back and cool teacher that is easy to talk too.” - Diana Fernandez, Grade 12

Ms. Leticia Gomez, English
“Mrs. Gomez. The thing I liked the most in the class was that she made the best out of every situation during the pandemic. Also, she would stay after class in the meeting to answer questions. It was just an overall fun experience being in her class.” - Christopher Cervantes, Grade 10

Ms. Caroline Khan, English
“I like Mrs. Khan. I like how she’s super understanding when it comes to her assignments and that most kids who do her class are taking other honors, so she takes that into consideration instead of piling on work. Also the assignments are more interesting than normal English.” - Jennifer Puga, Grade 10

Ms. Alexandra Medina, English
"My favorite teacher is Ms. Medina, mainly because I've had her the most--I've had her for two years out of the four years I've been at Colton High School. She also had my older brother, Nathan Rivera. It was kinda funny because on Back to School Nite when I was in 9th grade, as soon as we walked in the door--me, my dad, my older brother, my little brother--she immediately skipped past all of us to...

Ms. Ruth Gadea
"Ms. Gadea. She’s just a good math teacher. She always helps me when I need help on an assignment. When people are struggling with an assignment, she goes to them to offer help." - Lucino Becerril, Grade 9

Mr. Armando Ponce, Science
Mr. Ponce's class is really fun! I like it a lot and not just that he helps us with our work. - Anthony Saenz Quinonez, Grade 10

Ms. Janet Godinez
"Ms. Godinez is a nice and supportive teacher. She helps when a student asks. Whenever I need help, I go to her and she’ll explain the problem that I’m having on a math question. I love that she’s a caring person who will do anything to help her students." - Steven Pulido, Grade 10

Mr. Elliott Glass
"Mr. Glass is my favorite history teacher. He can take a joke, honestly. He jokes around with the class a lot, but we still get our work done. A lot of kids joke about his age. Lately, they have been trying to figure out how old he is, so sometimes he gives them context clues. So, I guess someone guessed his age right and he laughed about it." - Juan Terriquez, grade 11

Ms. Holly Lacy
"Lacy. She is super interactive with the students, and super hands-on. When we're struggling, she breaks things down easily for us. She talks to most of the students; she gets along with everybody. She's very easy to talk to and very easy to come to when we've got problems." - Sara Wood, Grade 12

Ms. Gloria Ramirez-Haldeman
“I would say my favorite science teacher is Ms. Ramirez. I was lucky enough to be one of the few that has her two years consecutively for HEAL biology and HEAL chemistry. She really helped me find my love and passion for science and medicine through her class and all of her lessons. She was able to create a comfortable and friendly learning environment that I think many teachers try and fail at. ...

Ms. Candice Tapia, English
"Ms. Tapia is really supportive on things. She's like a mom to me. She's there and she understands you." - Arianna Hernandez, Grade 11

Mr. Terry Urban, English
“My favorite English teacher is Mr. Urban, he not only helps us with our work, making things simple, but also is extremely friendly with everyone. What I like most about being in Mr. Urban's class is his chill energy. It’s like a welcoming feeling, and you can talk to him like he’s a friend.” - Emily Melgarejo, Grade 10

Mr. Andrew Vidal, English
“Mr. Vidal is my favorite English teacher because during online learning, he made class fun so I would want to learn, and everyday was better because of that” - Emilio Arriaga, Grade 10

Mr. Kenneth Taber
"Mr. Taber is my favorite elective teacher. He does choir. He's my favorite teacher because his class is really chill and laid back." - Isyss Valenzuela, grade 12
