The summer heat is leaving just in time for fall

The air is crisp, the leaves are changing color, and the summer heat is leafing it time for that fall season! (No pun intended.)  Fall is the beginning of not only a new season but fall activities. In the month of October, there’s Halloween and who doesn’t love Halloween? Back in Ireland, Celts celebrated their New Year on November 1st so they believed that on the night before the separation of the living and the dead would be joined as one for the night. When the British came to America, Halloween wasn’t very popular in the Northern States, but in the Southern States, it was very popular. It was only until the 1950’s were Halloween would be celebrated throughout the world.

In November we celebrate Thanksgiving. In the 1620’s when 102 pilgrims came over on the Mayflower, they had met an Indian named Squanto, who was taken by the British and learned our language, had taught the pilgrims to cultivate corn, extract sap from maple trees, catch fish in the rivers and avoid poisonous plants. In November of 1621, the Pilgrims first harvest was a success so the Pilgrims and Indians came together for a feast to celebrate. Friday, September 22 marks the first day of fall so let the season kick off with crisp air and pumpkin scent fill the air.
