“Awake” is an intriguing drama about a detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) who finds he is leading an arduous double life that defies reality after a car accident that killed either his wife Hannah Britten (Laura Allen) and/or his son Rex Britten (Dylan Minnette).
With the help of two psychiatrists, Michael Britten must tell himself which one is really dead and which is still alive. As a detective, he must not let this get in the way of his daily job, but his mind can’t help itself. It sends mixed symbols through his dreams that foreshadow the near future. Instead of curing this and stopping the madness, he decides to use it to his advantage.
The first two episodes were filled with chases and cases with lots of action, making it the perfect show for action lovers. Detective Michael Britten has to overcome the challenges, such as several different illusions that lead him to different cases, that he was originally assigned to work. Somehow they intertwine and become one big case and one big mystery. He must overcome feelings that are within him. He has to face the fact that either his son or his wife, or even both, are dead. It will stay a mystery if he doesn’t take action in what he sees. He is living a real life dream that allows him to dream and live life at the same time; he must realize when he is dreaming and when he is living reality.
