Daniel Montes, Diana Vera, and Brianna Jimenez earned medals at the 2022 Fleet Feet Inland Empire Challenge, held in Ontario at Cucamonga-Guasti Park on Oct. 15.
Ontario, CA—With the threat of rain, Colton’s Cross-Country team made their way out to Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park to compete in the Fleet Feet Inland Empire Challenge on Saturday, October 15. The elements did not deter the success of the squad.
This event offered nothing new to Colton’s experienced runners, who participated in the IE Challenge last year. The location of the race was changed this year from Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino to Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park in Ontario.
“With two weeks left of the season, our runners gave their best performance with all the race factors in their favor,“ said head coach Roxana Lopez. ”The weather was cool, the course was flat, and everyone was determined to run a personal record.”
And they did just that, with 12 of Colton’s 13 runners setting personal records.
With 22 races scheduled throughout the day, Colton’s runners were spread out into 5 races, Sophomore Christopher Acero led the Varsity boys with a time of 18.09.2. Sophomore Brianna Jimenez (21:22.4) and Senior Diana Vera (21:24.4) continued their strong showing for the varsity girls, both earning medals for coming in 16th and 17th place, respectively.
Senior Daniel Montes medaled in the Boys JV Race with a time of 20:22.5.
“We got to see some really fast times this weekend, and everyone seems to keep on improving. I’m proud of everyone challenging and pushing their limitations.” Lopez said
With only two weeks left of the season, Colton’s runners continue keeping up their efforts for conference finals on October 29.
