Lady Yellowjacket Basketball and Soccer are CIF playoff bound; schedule announced

Yesterday, the CIF playoff schedules for both girls’ basketball and soccer were released, which included both CHS teams.
On Saturday, Feb. 12, the girls’ soccer team travels to Palm Springs to face the Indians at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, the girls’ basketball team will get a home game against the Desert Christian Academy Conquerors at 7 p.m.
The girls’ soccer team finished second in the San Andreas league this season with an overall record of 11-5-3 (4-2-2 in league play). Last week, they fell to San Gorgonio in the San Andreas league 1-0 in a hard fought overtime game. They are led on offense by sophomore Anna Bailey with 18 goals and 4 assists on the season. On defense, goaltender Zamantha Moctezuma has held down the goal with 49 saves against 11 goals scored by opposing teams.
They will face a Palm Springs team that placed third in the Desert Empire league with an 8-3 overall record (7-3 in league). They are led by senior Keona Corona, who had 10 goals, 5 assists, and 72 steals on the regular season. Goaltender Brittney Jimenez-Toledo logged 80 saves against 9 goals.
Colton’s girls’ basketball team finished second in the Skyline league with a record of 3-3 (6-12 overall). On Feb. 4, they lost the Skyline championship to Fontana High, 60-39. The Lady Yellowjackets are anchored by senior forward/center Madison Barrera, who averages 17.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. Recent addition, freshman Savannah Govea, has inspired their play in the backcourt, opening up the floor for guards Brianna Chacon and Zoey Espino.
Colton is going up against the 13-10 (6-6 in Ambassador league) Desert Christian Conquerors. As of this report, MaxPreps does not have any statistical information about the team from Bermuda Dunes.
