Grand Terrace, CA—The Yellowjacket girls’ tennis team traveled to Grand Terrace High School today for their first San Andreas league match against the Titans and came home victorious, defeating Grand Terrace 13 sets to 5.

Once again, the Yellowjackets doubles teams dominated, taking all nine sets from the Titans. Number one team Shantel Marentes and Jasmin Almazan were never challenged, defeating Grand Terraces’ top three teams 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. Similarly, the Colton third team of Emily Ramirez and Juliette Echauregui didn’t struggle against the Titans, winning their sets 4-0 (by default), 6-0, 6-2.

The only challenge to the doubles teams came against number two team Sydney Castro and Kimberly Emilio. Their set against Grand Terrace’s number one team pushed them to the brink. They were down 2-5 early but rallied to win 7-5.

On the singles side, number one and two players Rita Mariscal and Andrea Quintero took two of their three sets, securing the 13-5 victory for the team. Three different players, Jamie Santos, Lesley Yanez, and Briseyda Rodriguez, represented Colton as the third player against Grand Terrace.

While the three ladies lost their sets, Coach Omar Menjivar is pleased with their growth. “They are gaining more experience in developing their game,” he said post-match.

This victory puts Colton at 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in San Andreas league play. Their next match is at home against Eisenhower on Thursday.
