Colton, CA—Behind a dominating performance by the their doubles duos, the Yellowjackets won today’s pre-season match against Notre Dame High School, 10-8.

The doubles teams swept all nine sets against the Titans, none of them ever in doubt.

Number one seeded Sydney Castro and Kimberly Emilio only lost two games in three sets, defeating their opponents 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.

Shantel Marentes moved from the number one seed on the singles side to partner with Jazmin Almazan as the team’s number two seed, and together they took all three sets, 6-0, 7-5, 6-1.

Rounding out the three doubles teams, Juliette Echauregui found a new partner in Emily Ramirez, and they connected immediately, cruising to 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 victories against the Titans.

The singles, however, did not fare as well, dropping eight of the nine sets against Notre Dame. Number one seed Rita Mariscal claimed the only set against the Titan’s number two player, 6-2.

After losing their last two matches against Indian Springs and Canyon Springs, today’s tough win is a great confidence booster for the Yellowjacket squad as they head into league play next week against Grand Terrace.

Coach Omar Menjivar is happy his team is improving and growing. He continues to challenge them, and they are rising to the challenge.
