Colton, CA—The Lady Yellowjackets took care of business in today’s preseason match against the Indian Springs Lady Coyotes, winning in straight sets, 3-0.

This is the team’s second consecutive victory in as many days.

Senior middle blocker Justine Estrada led the Lady Yellowjackets with six kills as she controlled the net all three games. Her aggressive attack game put Indian Springs back on their heels, and they were never able to sustain any consistent counter.

From the opening serve, the Lady Yellowjackets came out hot. They looked ready to coast to an easy win, taking a commanding eight-point lead at 24-16. Then the error bug struck. Indian Springs fought back and the Yellowjackets barely escaped the first game, winning 27-25 on a big serve by senior defensive specialist Angelena Robledo.

Estrada dominated game two, and the Lady Yellowjackets cruised to a 25-15 win. Everything came together for them during this stretch. Libero Elena Torrero picked up three digs, defensive specialist Lesley Larios added two kills to her game total of four, and setter Desiree Ayala tallied four assists.

It only seemed inevitable after playing such a flawless second game, that there might be a letdown in the third. Indian Springs started strong but were never able to take more than a two-point lead.

This led to a dramatic conclusion in which the teams traded shots. Indian Springs kept the score close, but never reclaimed the lead. Senior Zamantha Moctezuma got a huge block on game point to put away the Lady Coyotes for good, 25-22.

But the game belonged to Estrada. She felt great after game point and was excited that she was able to get a lot of kills. However, she stayed focused on her teammates.

“The team was dominating as a whole,” she said.

The Yellowjackets play their third game in a row tomorrow afternoon at Rubidoux High School.
