Varsity Volleyball Ends the 2016 Season with a Loss over Summit, 2-1

In the final game of the season, the Colton Girls Volleyball team lost in a close battle against the Summit Skyhawks, two games to one. In the first match of the Junior Varsity team it was one for the books. Colton started off by serving the ball and getting the instant point when the opponent wasn’t able to return the ball. Colton’s own Monica Rodriguez made a huge dive attempt to save the ball which failed however left the crowd in excitement, as after that move they knew that this was going to be an emotional game. Both teams seemed evenly matched with the scare being 4-6 in favor of the Lady Jackets’ Vanessa Bravo, who slips in attempt to retreat the ball giving Summit the point. When summit closed the lead having the score 7-6, leaving Colton in the dust. As the lead stretched, Colton had problems between the players. Colton then made one last attempt and brought the score to 16-11 still with summit in the lead. The crowds opinion of colton change when they saw Sophomore Adriana Flores make a huge upset point when the opposing team was unable to return the serve and shocks everyone. It was then over and done when two Summit players combined made a huge upset block and prevented the ball from going over. Summit then extended their lead eventually the final score being 25-15 in favor of the Skyhawks.

The second match of the JV game was almost an exact repeat of the last match. Summit started off by serving the ball, the game was then an intense back and forth game with incredible volleys, dives, blocks, and saves. Colton got the early lead all the way up to the score being 7-9. This continued however Summit would close their lead, but colton would then once again reclaim their lead. This remained until frustration set in when Flores would hit a ball and the referee would say in, but then immediately change and say it was out. This caused Colton’s team to become frustrated making them fall behind to a score of 18-13, which eventually let Summit win with the score being 25-16. Summit High School won 2-0.

Summit High then put on a beautiful and tasteful ceremony honoring their seniors. They first announced Colton High Seniors, Aurora Acosta, Valeria Vallarta, and Erika Robles were all honored, receiving gifts. This went heartfelt when Summits team was being honored many people were brought to tears as all the girls love this sport.

Colton was then left heartbroken when Summit got a huge early lead with score being 4-1. As the match progressed the lead became even larger being 10-4, Colton’s girls were diving, running as fast as they could but to no avail. The final score was a sad 25-7. The next match was again an upset victory. Summit got a major lead after colton served getting a single point, however summit progressed even farther making the score 7-1. Vallarta kept attempting to making dives but none succeeded. Summit dominates this game with the score being 25-11.

In the final match of the night, was the biggest attempt of Colton to get back in this game. Colton got the first point when Summit served. The girls of Colton were able to keep up until the 10 point mark where they then soon fell far behind. The girls of Colton were tired, battered and broken soon losing all hope of winning. The score of the 3rd and final match was 24-12 in favor of summit. Summit won the game with a score of 3-0.
