Marlins ace pitcher, Jose Fernandez, was killed on impact in a boating accident recently. Fernandez, the 24-year-old right-hander whose vibrant personality endeared himself to fans as much as his dominant fastball, was a Cuban-born pitcher who grew up in Tampa and was drafted 11th overall by the Marlins in 2011.

He went on to become the star pitcher, as National League Rookie of the Year 2013 and a two-time All-Star.

Officials concluded the boat, a 32-foot SeaVee center console model, hit the rocks at full speed. According to boat sources, that specific boat can go up to 50-65 mph.

“After the boat was discovered at the entrance of Miami Harbor, Fernandez and two other men were found dead,” Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman, Lorenzo Veloz says. The coast guard personnel claims to have noticed the boat was upside down.

Two bodies have been recovered from under the boat which will remain anonymous and another body was under the rocks. “The men were Fernandez’s friends,” Veloz said.

Fernandez will be missed from the bottom of the baseball community’s hearts along with all his family and friends.
