He’s 34 years old, he stands 5 feet, 10 inches, weighing 160 lbs even. He stands undefeated, 35 wins with no losses or draws. He hails from Karaganda, Kazakhstan. In the O2 Arena, London, United Kingdom, the air is ecstatic. London’s hometown boxer, Kell Brook, is fighting the undefeated, impenetrable, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

By the 5th round, both fighters are already weary. Kell Brook has a cut on his left eye, his corner successfully stopped the bleeding. The bell rings for the round to begin and here comes Golovkin, rushing in with a monstrous jab. Brooks hugs him before Golovkin lands his signature right hook; a hook that has knocked out many fighters before Brook. The referee steps in to interfere and spread them apart. Golovkin leaps and throws a jab and short left hook, as Brook steps back. Before he can catch his balance, Golovkin lands another jab to Brook’s nose. Brooks finally reacts and throws a jab and straight right; neither land.

Golovkin steps back and comes forward for the kill. Brook leans on the ropes as Golovkin throws a jab, right hook, left hook. Brook drops his left hand and Golovkin throws a heavy right hook that stuns Brook. Brook tries to move out from the ropes, but Golovkin isn’t letting him out. Golovkin lands a leaping left hook and right uppercut. Brook stops for a second and Golovkin lands another heavy right hand. The referee doesn’t know when to stop the fight.

Brook begins to move again but Golovkin keeps landing combination after combination. Golovkin loses his balance for a second and Brook throws his hands up, taunting Golovkin. Golovkin reacts with another jab and right hook. Brook hugs him again and the referee spreads them apart. Brooks circles the ring and stops to land a short left hook, that momentarily stuns Golovkin. Brooks lands an uppercut and left hook as Golovkin tries to react. Golovkin responds with an instant jab and right uppercut. Brook steps back and Golovkin lands a straight right that stuns Brook. Golovkin lands another right hook to the body and Brook throws a weak left hook, just to get out of the corner. Brook throws another jab but Golovkin lands a straight right. Brooks tries to move out of the way as Golovkin lands another jab and two straight rights.

Brook’s trainer eagerly waves a white towel but the referee can’t see it. Golovkin lands a jab and straight right, Brook’s head snaps back and he lifts his hands up, again, taunting Golovkin. Golovkin leaps and misses with jab and right hook. Golovkin quickly fixes his position and throws a right uppercut that snaps Brook’s head back and his guard falls. Brook’s trainer throws the towel to the referee and the referee finally stops the fight before Golovkin can finish off Brook. Golovkin leads on the ropes and raises his hands in superiority. He stands undefeated, now, 36 wins with no losses.

On the other side of the globe, Golovkin’s rival prepares for his fight against Liam Smith on September 16, 2016. He’s 26 years old, stands 5 feet 9 inches, weighing exactly 165 pounds. He waves the Mexican flag, in pride, in honor. His boxing record is 47 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. He comes from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. His name, is Saul Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez, for his last past few fights against James Kirkland, Miguel Cotto & Amir Khan, has been calling out Golovkin.

“I’ll fight him right now, tomorrow, any day, just say so,” Canelo says after his knockout victory against Amir Khan, “like we say in Mexico, stop all the bull crap, let’s get to fighting.”

The question is, if Canelo wants this fight so bad, why hasn’t it happened? Well, Golden Boy Promotions & Oscar De La Hoya (Canelo’s promoter) doesn’t believe Alvarez is ready. Back in 2013, De La Hoya rushed Alvarez into a fight with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. Alvarez wasn’t knocked out, but he was outboxed by Mayweather. This caused Alvarez to receive his first loss. Oscar De La Hoya has contracted 3 fights so far, without even thinking about getting Alvarez to fight Golovkin. Golovkin has the highest knockout percentage in the Middleweight division.

What is De La Hoya waiting for? He’s waiting for Golovkin to get old, so it will be a guaranteed win for Alvarez. Golovkin is 34 years old right now; the average boxer retires at age 35-40, since they aren’t in their prime anymore. Golovkin poses to much of a threat to Alvarez, so De La Hoya is playing the angles right now, hoping for Golovkin to lose his speed, accuracy & power, so that Alvarez can win, without a problem. Golden Boy Promotions has been failing to even contact Golovkin’s team to contract a fight. In press conferences, De La Hoya claims to have been “talking” to Golovkin’s team, but no contact has been made, from what Golovkin claims.

When is this fight ever going to happen? We have to wait and see what Canelo says after he fights Liam Smith on September 16, 2016.
