Major news broke down in the world of Olympic sports on August 3rd that Girls Softball and Baseball will make its long awaited return to the Olympics in 2020. Two of the world’s favorite sports brought attention to the IOC, granting permission to be back into the Summer Olympics. According to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) vice president, John Coates says, “Softball, baseball, and three other sports nominated represent a “good balance between sports that are very popular in Japan and those better engaging youth.”

Softball and Baseball were voted out the olympics in 2012 due to its limited popularity in only the United States, Canada, and Asia. In 2020, the olympics will be officially held in Tokyo, Japan at the world famous National Olympic Stadium. Since the two sports are highly appreciated in Asia, it was easy to convince the session of this addition.

The IOC removed these two sports as a result of lack of support. People around the world have been missing out on the opportunity to watch one of the two greatest sports play in the Olympics. As a real fan of the two sports, your attention would be drawn to the tension between the pitcher and the batter before the pitch is even pitched, the dedicated fans’ cheers and the jaw dropping plays. The popularity of these two have remained U.S. traditions for decades and so many are excited to see these sports return to the Summer Games. A poll was taken on Twitter to show how excited fans are to know a comeback is being made by softball and baseball. The poll states that 67% of the people look forward to the return, making fans worldwide electrified to witness the return of one the world’s most greatest and popular sports.
