Track and field season kicks off at Fontana high

Colton’s Track & Field season kicked off on Wednesday, March 6th at Fontana High School.

The season had begun so early in the month of March, because of spring break. The team took this meet seriously, as it involved points for the season.

Colton’s Track team showed great sportsmanship, despite several team member injuries. Those who were injured still made it to the finish line, making second or third place. Our hurdles team had one injured athlete. Even though her shins were slowing her down, she still made her way in first for 100 meter hurdles.

Some track runners who didn’t attend the last Tri-Meet at Riverside Poly were very nervous. One by one, an event was being called out.

Some of our track members were mad, even when we came in first place. The problem was when it was time to mark down a time, Colton had come in first, but yet wasn’t marked; the points were handed to Fontana.

All our mile track runners began so well: Dominic Borbon came in second and Kevin Hernandez came in third. Colton had trouble with Fontana not turning on their stadium lights. It was almost impossible for the 4×4 runners to see. It was past five o’clock, and the day had just begun to get dark. It was also a windy day for runners to be out in the cold, especially after it was getting dark. Coach Valerie Holmes was even mad about the situation with the lights. It was ridiculous; the runners couldn’t even pass the baton to their companies.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
