Learning new languages

At this school, Colton High, the two languages they have at the moment are spanish and ASL.  feel as if we need a few more languages we can have a choice in taking. With choosing between spanish and asl, there’s not really a choice, if you are good at spanish and want to learn something new, you are pretty much forced into taking ASL. Yes asl is good to learn and very helpful but there should be a variety of other languages. It would be a good opportunity for people who are very into the japanese, french, etc culture to be able to learn what they really are into. This would be a good way to get kids into school since, in my opinion, learning a new language is very fascinating and understanding the culture behind it is amazing.

Some students at CHS agree with my opinion and they also have their own opinion. “Some people can already be proficient in spanish and english and may need a new language to focus on. Spanish isn’t the only language people use, languages like chinese, italian, etc are also some languages people use here in the U.S.”. this is a quote from a student here who feels the same way as some others here. Everyone has the same idea that only two languages won’t do for a variety of students.

It’s also kind of a hassle to deal with a load of kids not interested in the language. We’re not gonna be able to learn or understand if we are not interested in the language. I know it gets boring when you already know most of what they’re learning. People get antsy and not really in the mood to learn, it may differ if we bring in some other languages. We would be interested in speaking a new language, it would excite us. There’s a lot of negatives to this but more positives to bringing new languages.  Some negatives I can think of are finding teachers that we can get and the amount given to them. athena positives would be this whole article, kids would be more interested and into it.
