On August 26 2016 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to sit out the national anthem before a preseason football game. His actions have caused a lot of people to get angry at him; they say he isn’t patriotic and that he doesn’t support our military.

He responded to the criticism by saying that the reason he chose to sit down does not involve the military and veterans. The reason he choose to sit down was because of the recent killings of African Americans this year by the police.

Many people are angry at him for what he is doing but what he did is good. Colin Kaepernick has started a conversation about what is going on in the world today. He choose to use his platform to help others who don’t have the opportunity to reach the type of audience he can.

Colin Kaepernick is doing it the right thing in the right way; he isn’t telling everyone to sit out the national anthem, he isn’t telling people to go cause problems in the streets, all he is doing is making people think about what he is sitting for. Many of the people who are getting angry and upset with him are not looking at the message that he is trying to send. They are more upset at the fact one man decided to sit out the national anthem for a logical reason, rather than hundreds of people have been killed by the police this year.

All Colin Kaepernick wanted to do was to inform people and make them start thinking about what is actually going on in the United States.
